all hail...Saint Sheffield

According to YES... Gary Sheffield is creeping into HOF discussions, partly because his HR's are 'above suspicion, unlike certain other numbers that have been posted recently' - I do love subtle jabs at Raffy. I could get the actual quote, the joys of Tivo, but bear with my crude parahrasing!

Sheffield... above suspicion? So now if your name is Sheffield, and you patrol right field in NY, stating that you didn't know you were using "the cream" and "the clear" (while you actually were using the cream and the clear), you are above suspicion...

Hey Shef, see Jim Rice. Guys with difficult relationships with the media tend to have difficulty securing the requisite votes. And given the extremist position people are taking with steriods, I find it difficult to believe that 75% of baseball writers are going to give him the nod.

What do you guys think about Shef's statement that he's the real leader in the Yankees clubhouse? As a Sox fan, I'm so glad that the Boss overruled Cashman a few years ago and signed Shef instead of Vlad...

Hey Marc,

I agree with you on the Sheff / Vlad decision, another of Steinbrenner's strange choices. According to the NY Daily News, Cashman only offered Sheff a 2 year, $18m deal (an "insult") while Steinbrenner agreed a 3 year, $39 deal directly with Sheffield, in competition with only himself.

For all that I dislike the character (or maybe that should be caricature) that Sheffiled is, he is one guy that when he come to the plate against the Sox, I fear what the outcome might be.

Definately-- Shef swings with vicious intentions; although he did stink it up in games 5-7 last season.

When it comes to Sox killers, I have always hated Posada--he continually gets the big hit in the big moments.
